Love & Hope

Sorry for the large gap between posts. I intend to backfill over the next week or so.

Our boys made a surprise appearance early Thursday morning at 24 1/2 weeks. Christopher John (710 g), Kyle Joseph (700 g) and Jake Mortimer (640 g) were born at 3:11, 3:12 and 3:13 AM July 16th.

Today marks their week 25 milestone. We hope that they will be able to come home with us by their expected due date of November 1st. Christine and I have been spending much of our time in the Mount Sinai NICU where Christopher, Kyle and Jake are closely monitored by their guardian angels, the nurses of the NICU.

And they are so small! I've been afraid to touch them because their skin is not yet ready for the real world and the possibility of infection is so likely. But today I will touch their hands - hands that are the size of my fingernail. And I will read to them, a task of love that I had just started the week before they were born. I had asked Adam yesterday to pick out some books for his brothers from the store at Mount Sinai. I remember reading the same books that he chose when Adam was a baby. Excellent choice Big Brother!

Hang in there boys. We love you. Happy 25 weeks!

Anatomy Ultrasounds - Finally!

Another grueling round of scans Monday morning. These detailed, 45 minute scans for each baby reveal physical abnormalities that could affect the spine, kidneys, brain, bowels, extremities, heart, etc. It was fun to watch the babies sucking thumbs, waving and kicking their arms and legs, ignoring the sonographer's pokes and prods, generally pretty much what you'd expect from misbehaving children.
These snaps were selected after the ultrasounds were taken so none are full body shots - sorry!

Did I mention that we asked the technician for the sexes? The results were pretty obvious from the scans. I apologize in advance for anyone wishing for girls. Yes, 3 boys!!!

Getting Ready....

And kijiji to the rescue again!
Friday evening consisted of a road trip to Windsor to pick up a triple stroller with matching car seats from a wonderful young couple. All are in excellent condition. The Vibe was packed to the roof with the purchase. Now I just need to find room in the garage for this beast.

Getting Ready....

Much work has been done on the nursery - several coats of primer covered the various shades of bright blues and red trim. They are topped by two nicely coordinating colours. My first kijiji.ca purchases consisted of two slightly used IKEA cribs from southern Scarborough. Adam and I drove to IKEA after a Blue Jays outing (they defeated Boston - again) to pick up a third matching crib. Adam did a great job putting it together with a little help from his father. The repainting of the two used cribs continues using low-VOC paint from Benjamin Moore.
Nursery picture to follow!
